August 4 - Market Day!

In the early 16th century the pope gave Vaison la Romaine market status, and so every Tuesday for the past 500 years, the city has it's market. Sounds cute doesn't it. It was a total zoo. We were expecting something between the Renton Farmers Market and Pike Place Market because it's such a tiny town, only 6000 people live there. However on Market Day, every cute little street in this town was an absolute wall of people, every parking lot full of stalls of fresh produce, lavender, spices, cheese, meats, hand made crafts.

We bought lovely lovely things to make our own lunch and dinner for tonight. After about 3 hours in the market we headed back to our rented apartment and had fresh chevre on olive baggete with fresh sliced tomatoes, basil coated olives, and sun-dried tomatoes.

After lunch we took a drive on the 'Cote du Rhone' scenic loop.
